Check out the streaming numbers behind the 2021 ARIA Awards
The virtual ARIA Awards accumulated 1.7 million views in the seven days since its live stream on YouTube, according to data shared Friday by ARIA, with The Kid Laroi generating the lion’s share of those clicks.
Laroi’s closing performance of ‘Stay’ raked in 675,000 views, Gretta Ray’s performance of ‘Love Me Right’ scooped 241,000 views, and Budjerah, winner of the inaugural Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist award, scored 239,000 views for his rendition of ‘Missing You’.
It’s an “amazing” result, declared ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd, following her first ARIAs in the top job.
“We are so happy to see the amazing results of this year’s awards,” she explains in a statement. “This year our single goal was to be able to bring the industry together after another turbulent year to celebrate creativity and perseverance, but also to welcome a new, bright and brilliant era for Australian music.
“We couldn’t be more pleased to see that resonate with Australia and the world, and we can’t wait to reveal what’s already in store for next year.”
The 35th annual awards was beamed out from Taronga Zoo and streamed on YouTube, through a partnership with YouTube Music, and on Nine Network’s digital channel 9Now.
Lyor Cohen, Global Head of Music, YouTube, confirmed the streaming giant’s commitment to the Australian music industry’s flagship awards ceremony.
“Australia has an outsized weight in the global music scene, and we will continue to empower and help local artists grow their audiences, connect with fans in meaningful ways and break songs around the world,” he said in September.
Now that the dust has settled on a night that saw Genesis Owusu and The Kid LAROI take home some of the greatest bounty on offer, YouTube shares a behind-the-scenes clip of the ARIAs.
