Tones And I takes out #2 most-streamed song globally on Spotify in 2020
Spotify’s annual Wrapped results have revealed the top-played artists and songs both in Australia and overseas this year.
Globally, Tones And I had the second-most streamed song on the platform for 2020 with ‘Dance Monkey’, just behind The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ in the top spot. Rounding out the top five are TikTok hit ‘The Box’ from Roddy Ricch, Imanbek’s remix of the SAINt JHN track ‘Roses’, and Dua Lipa’s ‘Don’t Start Now’.

In Australia, Hilltop Hoods retained the title of most-streamed local artist for the second year in the row, followed by Flume, Tones And I, The Wiggles and 5 Seconds of Summer. ‘Dance Monkey’ was the most streamed song from an Australian artist, also for the second year in a row.
The top 50 most-streamed Australian songs also include tracks from The Rubens, Sam Fischer, Vance Joy, Tame Impala and Lime Cordiale. A full playlist is available here.
While comedy was Australian’s most popular podcast genre, the highest-ranking podcasts tended to focus more on news and current affairs, with news.com.au’s From the Newsroom, Mamamia’s The Quicky and Squiz Today taking out the top three spots.
In bittersweet news, the late rapper Juice WRLD, who died roughly around this time last year, was the highest-streamed artist in Australia, likely helped through his 2020 posthumous album Legends Never Die.
