Spotify launches microsite for World Cup
Spotify has launched a microsite inspired by the FIFA World Cup, which features artist interviews and playlists curated by soccer players and artists.
Music has long been affiliated with the sport and Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull’s official FIFA World Cup song We Are the One (Ole Ola) isn’t the first theme track. In fact the first theme song was El Rock del Mundial by Los Ramblers for the 1962 World Cup in Chile.
Shakira – who has performed at two World Cup ceremonies and wrote La La La for the 2014 event – Fatboy Slim, Ricky Martin, Avicii and Jennifer Lopez, are among the international artists to share playlists on the Spotify Loves Football site. Local artists Papa vs Pretty, Samantha Jade, Gang of Youths, and The McClymonts have also shared playlists.
Tournament players like Wayne Rooney – whose playlist includes Ed Sheeran, Lupe Fiasco and Béyonce – Sir Alex Ferguson, Kaká and André Schürrle have also shared playlists and feature in interviews published on the site.
Spotify Loves Football features articles on the history of the tournament, the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 official playlist, and the fan-voted Playlists Cup, where users suggest music that best represents their country either on the site or on Twitter using the #SpotifyLovesFootball hashtag.
