Splendour & Falls Festival have officially secured their ‘permanent home’
The futures of Splendour In The Grass and Falls Festival are no longer up in the air, with the North Byron Parklands officially confirmed as the “permanent home” of these iconic events.
For a few years now, there has been a very real fear that the Splendour In The Grass and Falls Festivals could be forced to relocate due to concerns such events were damaging the surrounding areas.
Now, after a six-and-a-half year trial, the Independent Planning Commission (IPC) has given the festivals the green light to continue hosting these iconic events on the North Byron Parklands.
“Parklands will now become the permanent home of Splendour in the Grass and Falls Festival Byron,” a statement released earlier today explains.
“The venue will also have the ability to host community events in addition to a small number of one day concerts. This will see Parklands attracting world class artists to the region across a range of music genres.”
According to a press release sent out by the IPC today, “strict conditions of consent” will however be in place. These conditions are being implemented in order to not only ensure the environmental protection of the parklands themselves, but to also “address residents’ concerns about crowd numbers, noise, traffic and sewage and wastewater management.”
“It’s been a journey,” explained North Byron Parklands general manager Mat Morris. “While the planning process has been a lengthy yet robust process, it’s great to finally receive approval to operate for up to 20 days per year.”
“We’d like to thank the thousands of people that have supported North Byron Parklands along the way; the local residents and businesses and the wider community. These people have all played a vital role in making sure that this important outdoor cultural arts and music venue remains in Byron Shire.”
In addition to this agreement, it’s worth noting that the Parklands and both Splendour and Falls will continue to provide the annual Community Grants program (which has given over $630,000 to the community since 2013), and also create a large number of employment opportunities for locals as well.
In related news, Splendour In The Grass revealed its 2019 dates back in January, with the festival taking place from July 19th to the 21st. While the location is now locked in, all we have to do is wait for the lineup to drop.
