Sounds Australia supporting 50 businesses overseas

After a recent series of showcases and events in the UK, music export body Sounds Australia is now moving to help 50 Australian music businesses get more of a foothold in Netherlands, France and the United States.

They include publishing companies, record labels and arts organisations.

It is representing 30 classical music artists and businesses at Classical: NEXT in Rotterdam this week. This is the first time Sounds Australia is playing an active role in the four-day conference and showcase. Last year it attended as part of a scouting mission and decided it would be an effective event for a local delegation to develop relationships with international bodies and executives.

Today (Friday May 27) it will, in partnership with the Australian Music Centre, hold a reception for delegates.

Attendees include Association of British Orchestras (UK), Accentus Music GmbH (Germany), BMG Talpa Music (Netherlands), International Arts Manager (UK),

International BPM (Spain), International Franz Liszt Piano Competition (Netherlands), BBC Music Magazine (UK) BBC Radio 3 (UK), 21C Media Group, Inc. (USA), BW Intl’ Arts Management Company Ltd. (China), Adam Mickiewicz Institute (Poland), AFACUBE (France), Amadeus Vertrieb (Switzerland), Amerix Artists (Canada), Arts Council England (UK), Brandenburg Festival / Wolfgang Management (Germany) and Brandenburger Symphoniker (Germany).

Additionally, Sounds Australia returns for the seventh year to MIDEM Cannes (June 3 to 6). It will host an Australian stand along with 35 other nations, where Australians can hold one-on-one meetings with new and established partners, coordinated speed networking and a ‘Meet The Australians’ reception.

In partnership with AIR (Australian Independent Record Labels Association) and PPCA (Phonographic Performance Company of Australia), Sounds Australia will again lead a delegation of Australian independent record labels at annual music Indie Week conference (June 13 to 16). Thirteen Australian labels will participate in panels, one-on-one networking and events, including the A2IM Libby Awards.

The Aussie BBQ showcases will also be held at Liverpool Sound City (May 28, 29) for the seventh time, while Sounds Australia’s second showcasing at Primavera Pro sees six Aussie acts display their stuff on June 2.
