Sounds Australia gears up for a busy two months in the UK & Europe

Music export body Sounds Australia continues to expand the profiles and networking opportunities for the local industry.

It will support over 45 Australian acts and businesses at a number of conferences in the UK and Europe over the next two months.

“We’re constantly evaluating international markets and assessing the best opportunities for Australian artists and music industry,” says Executive Producer Millie Millgate.

“Our activity over the next month includes events like MIDEM and The Great Escape where we’ve been a fixture for many years, along with conferences like Classical:NEXT and Primavera PRO where we’re establishing a foothold.

“Wherever we go, we’re ensuring that Australian music is top of mind, and represented in the best possible way.”

The Great Escape, Brighton, UK (May 18-20)

Sounds Australia will host the Luncheon, co-presented by the Australian High Commission London, where Australian delegates meet top UK festival bookers, agents, managers, labels, music supervisors and media.

The Aussie BBQ in Brighton on Saturday May 20 includes Geowulf, Gold Class, Lisa Mitchell, Olympia, Sampa The Great and Tired Lion.

The Aussie BBQ in London the day after has sets from Ainslie Wills, Confidence Man, Dean Lewis, Geowulf, Gold Class, Gordi, Joel Sarakula, Olympia, REMI, Sampa The Great, Sarah Belkner and Tired Lion (who might be very tired indeed after all that).

ClassicalNEXT in Rotterdam, Netherlands (May 17 – 20)

In its second year here, Sounds Australia in partnership with the Australian Music Centre, will have a trade stand.

There’ll be networking functions and speed meetings with 1200 delegates from 45 countries, who’ll be discussing the future of classical music in the streaming age, monetising digital royalties, where to find the next generation of classical music stars and how to market them.

The two organisations this year also negotiated to place Australian executives in the event’s programming, with representation on conference panels, project pitches and networking sessions, including the Meet The Australians reception.

Australian delegates include: 3MBS, Australian Discovery Orchestra, Australian String Quartet, Chamber Made Opera, Claire Edwardes, Country Arts SA, Ensemble Offspring, Genevieve Lacey, Hilary Kleinig, Kammerlang, Kate Neal, Kaylie Melville, Leah Blankendal, Lisa Cheney, Making Waves New Music, Melbourne Recital Centre, New Music Network, Phoebe Green, Rubiks Collective, Speak Percussion, Australia Council for the Arts, The Song Company, Victorian Opera, Zephyr String Quartet and Zubin Kanga.

Primavera PRO, Barcelona, Spain (May 31 – June 4)

The Aussie BBQ on Thursday June 1 features POND, Julia Jacklin, Alex Cameron, Gordi, NOZU and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.

MIDEM, Cannes, France (June 3— 9)

Following positive outcomes from past MIDEMs, Sounds Australia has a pavilion as a dedicated place where Australian delegates can network with global colleagues.

There is also its annual reception, and SA will coordinate speed meetings and broker introductions.

The Australian contingent includes 21 companies and 15 students from Queensland University of Technology.

Represented are APRA AMCOS, DISCO, Harvest Media, Hebbes Music Group, Hillsong Music Australia, Shout! Music, Jaxsta, Mosso Media, Muru Music, Mushroom Music Publishing, Native Tongue Music Publishing, Origin Music, Queensland University of Technology, Rockfellaz, Spaghetti Music Publishing, Specific Music, The IRR Music Company and West Australian Music (WAM).
