Sounds Australia offering international showcase opportunities
Music export body Sounds Australia has opened applications for Aussie acts to play international events.
These include Reeperbahn Festival (900 events, September 19—22 in Hamburg, Germany) and world music WOMEX in Spain this year.
Semana Internacional de Música de São Paulo (December 6—8) is an important new music-focused event to get noticed in the Latin music market. 27 acts will be selected.
In 2019 there is SXSW (Austin, Texas) and Folk Alliance (Montreal, Canada) in 2019.
There are also additional showcase opportunities through Sounds Australia’s long-running Aussie BBQ shows, which draw a huge crowd every year.
Since January 2009, 783 Australian artists have showcased with Sounds Australia.
Acts who played their first showcases outside Australia through Sounds Australia have included Courtney Barnett, D.D Dumbo, DMA’S, Flume, Julia Jacklin, Hermitude, Methyl Ethel, Nick Murphy, Peking Duk, San Cisco, Sheppard, The Jezabels, The Preatures, Tkay Maidza and Vance Joy.
Sounds Australia is presenting a series of masterclasses focussing on digital exporting, music technology and streaming services.
After two of these in Melbourne earlier this week (a second had to be added due to demand), it goes to Darwin on July 7, Sydney (12), Brisbane (18) and Adelaide (24).
