Soundcharts launches global real-time tracking feature ‘Mentions’
Music analytics specialist Soundcharts has launched a new, real-time media tracking tool which is designed to give music professionals a leg up in the tricky game for identifying artists’ hot spots.
The French-based company says its new Mentions feature is its biggest product upgrade since launch in 2016, and it represents a world-first for its ability to track mentions of artists on a global basis.
In a statement announcing the development, SC claims the feature will help industry pros to “spot local promotional opportunities, identify niche genre publications, and influence marketing strategies,” by bringing a world of insights into one place.
Through Mentions, SC allows users to scan the Web and refine results into three categories: Music Media, Non-Music Media, and other websites.
This data is then enriched with detail, including country of origin (based on domain, language, traffic), domain rank (traffic estimation), and website types (broken down into news, forums, blogs and more).
With the newly-launched product, Soundcharts now monitors five verticals in real-time: social media, charts, playlists, radio airplay and Mentions.
In a time where so many of us are drowning in data, Soundcharts and its founder and CEO David Weiszfeld are confident the simplicity and depth of its new offering will win the day.
“Soundcharts was created to be the ultimate source of truth of the industry, making all the music data actionable in a unified platform,” explains Weiszfeld in a statement issued overnight. “Most music professionals are still using a dedicated, usually local-based, media tracking solution. By adding this vertical to Soundcharts, we are allowing them to save money by monitoring these mentions within the same platform they use everyday for the rest
of their data journey. The addition of Mentions is fully aligned with our mission.”
Earlier this year, Weiszfeld visited Australia to speak at FastForward and to spruik its analytics platform for artists and labels. He didn’t waste time taking delegates for a dive into the value of automated reporting.
Discussing the origins of his company, Weiszfeld told TIO: “As digital made the world smaller, we want everyone to have a real-time perspective on the world of music.
“Back in the day, I didn’t want to be left in the dark on the activity of the artists I represented. I could not afford to subscribe to 10 local monitoring platforms, so, just like professionals in Australia, I had to ask people for the information or go through dozens of free, dysfunctional tools.”
He added, “I’ve lost a lot of time doing that, and our time is the least scalable resource that we have.”
The tech company monitors upwards of 1,800 stations in 68 countries, tracks over 2.5 million artists and as many playlists, and features real-time data from over 9,000 charts. Its clients have included Warner Music, Sony/ATV, Ultra and Tomorrowland.
SC took out the marketing and data/analytics category at MidemLab in 2017 and was identified in the class of 2018 Techstars music companies.
