SOTD: YUNGBLUD is punk-rock’s rising rebel

UK singer-songwriter YUNGBLUD has become a voice for the misunderstood, the “freaks”, the outcasts and he’s totally okay with it. His debut album 21st Century Liability was an electrifying and bold introduction to the punk-rock artist he wants to be with a distinct pop-influenced twist.

Since the records’ release he has continued the exploration of diversity with ‘Loser’ and ’11 Minutes’ (with Halsey) by getting bolder, punchier and even injecting more pop elements to the production.

On his brand new single ‘Parents’, he continues being the voice for the misunderstood and isn’t afraid to get rowdy or be the artist that parents hate their kids listening to.

Reflecting on the misunderstanding of evolution and invalid views that parents may try to force onto their kids, he encourages them to rebel. “My high hopes are getting low because these people are so old”.

So I tied him up with gaffa tape and I locked him in a shed. Then I went out to the garden and I f***** my best friend”.

He electrifies this storyline by having a experimental and DIY production that is gritty during the verses and then polishes it up during the hook which makes it ready for radio. It’s the typical punk-pop structure that always works so well and immediately stands out to listeners.
