Sony Music signs hotly-tipped indie-pop singer MAY-A

Sony Music signs hotly-tipped indie-pop singer MAY-A

Teenage star-in-waiting MAY-A has signed with Sony Music Entertainment for Australia and New Zealand.

“I am so psyched to have signed with Sony Music and excited to see everything that they will bring to the team. I can’t wait to build our own mini universe full of wonderful creativity,” MAY-A comments in a statement issued Wednesday.

Raised in Byron Bay and now based in Sydney, MAY-A has scored warm reviews for a string of single of honest, self-reflective songs led by 2019’s ‘Fools Paradise’ and ‘All Girls Aren’t the Same.’

Her recent release ‘Green’ is one of those songs that makes you stop and take notice,” comments triple j Music Director Nick Findlay. “I feel that MAY-A is going to be an artist who makes big waves in 2020.”

That time has come. “We are thrilled to welcome MAY-A to the Sony Music family and we look forward to working with her as part of her long creative journey going forward,” comments Denis Handlin, Chairman and CEO of Sony Music Entertainment Australia and New Zealand.

MAY-A (real name Maya Cumming) is “incredibly special,” Handlin adds, “and her talent is very authentic and compelling. We are proud and honoured that she has decided to call Sony Music home for Australia and New Zealand.”

The first release through the exclusive new deal is ‘Apricots,’ a delicate indie-pop track which drops today.
