Sony Music Australia strengthens team with four new executive hires
Sony Music Australia welcomes four new recruits to its executive team in Sydney.
Therese Ryan returns to the Australian affiliate as Senior Director, Business Development, ANZ, with duties for cross-marketing and developing both Australian and New Zealand artists in each other’s markets.
Ryan will also be involved with the company’s Brands and Artist Management divisions and will work closely with Kim Boshier (MD, New Zealand) and Wayne Ringrow (VP, Australian Artists Marketing).
Ryan returns to Australia after relocating to the music major’s Hong Kong office in March 2019, where she served as Senior Director, Artist Development, Asia, with responsibilities for developing and executing regional campaigns and boosting presence of artists across the Asian territories.
A Sony Music stalwart, Ryan joined the Australian company in 2009 as Publicity & Promotions Coordinator and was promoted to National Publicity Representative soon after.
In her new role, Ryan reports to Denis Handlin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sony Music Entertainment Australia and New Zealand.
Meanwhile, experienced radio executive Claire Marshall is named Senior Director, Catalogue Streaming & Strategic Partnerships.
Marshall will be tasked with growing digital market share for Sony Music Australia’s priority catalog artists through digital marketing initiatives and DSP artist activations in partnership with its digital account management team.
She reports to Sophie McArthur (VP, Partner Development & Streaming Strategy, ANZ) and will work closely with Dan Nitschke (VP, Business Development & Media Partnerships, ANZ) on developing the business’ relationships with key brand, entertainment and commercial partners.
Marshall arrives at Sony Music with almost a quarter-century experience with Southern Cross Austereo, Nova Entertainment and others media players.
Publicity and social media pro Ben Hock is Sony Music’s new Senior Manager, Social Media & Content.
Hock takes the reins of social media and content strategy for a long list of domestic and international artists, and will play a key role in shaping broader company social and content projects.
Previously, he was Creative & Innovation Specialist at IAG, and Senior Account Manager at We Are Social before that.
Also, Sony Music taps Tom Gilmore as Manager, Data & Analytics.
Formerly Digital Catalogue Campaign Manager at Universal Music Australia, Gilmore will oversee analysis using Sony Music’s internal and third-party data sources to deliver insights, identify business opportunities and create efficiencies, according to an internal company memo seen by TIO.
In addition, he will support the team and business by developing market, audience and platform reports and tools.
Hock and Gilmore report to Sophie Paterson (Senior Director, Audience Development & Digital Communications, ANZ).
The addition of these four new starters “strengthens the team we have in these important areas of the company,” Handlin says in the memo.
Handlin this year celebrates his 50th anniversary with Sony Music, a feat of longevity that no other employee at the global company can beat.
