Sony Music ends 2020 with highest-ever Hot 40 market share
Sony Music Australia has 50 reasons to celebrate this week after securing its highest-ever share of the Hot 40 official airplay chart, ending the year with a dominant 52.54%.
The major label is trailed by Universal Music Australia on 27.4%, Warner Music Australia on 15.95%, independent labels on 2.2% and EMI Music Australia on 1.92%.
The result gives Sony Music a comfortable lead as the #1 record label at Australian radio, thanks to hits from Miley Cyrus, Sigala x James Arthur, Jason Derulo, BTS, Pink and more.
It’s not just the global superstars delivering the label its strong lead either. Aussie hitmakers Guy Sebastian, Tones And I, Amy Shark and The Kid LAROI are all inside the Hot 40.
Sony Music also leads the Hot 100 with 46.61%, followed by UMA (29.21%) and WMA (17.08%).
Joel Corry and MNEK’s ‘Head & Heart’ continues its stronghold over the chart, however, securing its ninth non-consecutive #1 this week on the TMN Hot 100 powered by Radio Monitor.
The official airplay charts will return on Friday, January 15, 2021.
