Australian Producer Sonny Fodera Shuffling to U.K. Top 40 With Becky Hill Collaboration ‘Never Be Alone’

Australian Producer Sonny Fodera Shuffling to U.K. Top 40 With Becky Hill Collaboration ‘Never Be Alone’

Sonny Fodera’s relocation to the U.K. is about to pay off, again, with a top 40 hit.

The Australian DJ and producer lends his talents to “Never Be Alone” (via Polydor), a club cut led by English singer and songwriter Becky Hill, an artist with a U.K. No. 1 to her name.

“Never Be Alone” starts at No. 26 on the U.K.’s midweek chart, and is set to give Hill her 19th U.K. top 40 single, including that leader with Oliver Heldens on 2014’s “Gecko (Overdrive)”.

Fodera is forecast to earn his second U.K. top 40, after “Asking” with MK (Marc Kinchen) and Clementine Douglas, which cracked the top 10 last year, peaking out at No. 7.  The tune also impacted ARIA’s Australian Artist Singles ARIA Charts last September, hitting No. 100.

The final result will be known late Friday, Jan. 26, when the Official U.K. Singles Chart is published.

Fodera works well with others. Exceptionally well.

Raised in Adelaide, now based in London, the 38-year-old electronic music man has a lengthy list of collaborators in his address book, including fellow Aussie Dom Dolla, Glass Animals, Green Velvet, Diplo and Scottish EDM star Calvin Harris (for a remix of “Promises”).

And he’s a seasoned traveller, landing spots on main festival stages around the globe, including America’s Coachella and HARD festivals; the U.K.’s Creamfields, Reading and Leeds festivals; a 15-week residency at Amnesia in Ibiza; and embarking on his own headline tours.

Described by Billboard as a dance music “phenom,” and characterised by Mixmag as “one of the biggest draws in house,” Fodera and his partner Amber Stone launched the label Solotoko in 2017, as a means to “create an open space, giving artists at different stage of their musical journeys a platform” to release tunes.”

Solotoko issued Fodera’s fifth studio album, Wide Awake, in 2021 (hitting No. 47 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart), and boasts a roster including Biscits, Saffron Stone, Alex Mills, James Hype and others.

Fodera kicks off a headline tour of Europe and the U.K. from Feb. 2 at Berlin’s Kesselhaus.

Dance music is pumping in the U.K. Data published by the BPI found that the genre accounted for roughly 25% of U.K. top 10 singles in 2022, including chart-topping bangers from LF System, Eliza Rose and top 10 audio nuggets by Aussie DJ and producer Luude.
