Social Media 50 Chart Wrap: Kanye feeds off album hype
It’s been a pretty stagnant week on the International Social Media 50, at least towards the higher end of the chart. Justin Bieber still reigns supreme at #1, leading ahead of Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez at #2 and #3 respectively. Bieber is still crushing the competition on YouTube, where he is currently ranked #1 in the world, while siting at second and third place on Twitter and Instagram in that order.
Demi Lovato remains in a strong position within the Top 10 at #7. With a combined audience across all channels of just under 70 million, all she requires is strong engagement on one channel to do all the heavy lifting. Right now that’s her Twitter account, which has averaged at a 5.2% daily engagement average – that’s over 1.7 million engagements a day. Though her Facebook and YouTube figures are lacking, she ranks 6th on both Twitter and Instagram.
Kanye West jumps five places up to #14 from #19, which shouldn’t be too surprising given its his album launch week. The controversy surrounding the album, as well as his Twitter meltdowns, have all contributed into pushing him further up the chart. Currenty, Ye sits at #1 for engagement on websites with his next best ranking channel being his Twitter account. We could very well see that number rise next week if he keeps up the Twitter banter.
The Weeknd is currently performing exceptionally well on his social media channels. Currently ranking at #18 on the chart powered by BrandData, he’s clocking up 81.07% engagement from his audience. His Twitter account engages with 130.77% of his audience daily and is proving to be his most effective medium. Over all his daily engagement rate with his audience lands just north of 10 million.
