Slum Sociable named October Artist To Watch on Rdio

PRESS RELEASE:

Throughout October, Melbourne Lo-Fo washed-out jazz hop duo Slum Sociable will be highlighted as Rdio’s Artist To Watch. Positioned alongside leading local artists such as Alison Wonderland and Dustin Tebbut, Rdio is pleased to welcome Slum Sociable into the Artist To Watch family.

2015 has already been a solid year for long-term friends Edward Quinn and Miller Upchurch, with singles ‘Anyway’ and ‘All Night’ garnering the duo much deserved attention from fans and music critics alike, propelling them into a solid position of reputable support slots and a number of highly anticipated BIGSOUND showcases.

With the release of ‘All Night’, the Melbourne duo gave fans the first taste of their new EP TQ, which is set for release on October 9 via Liberation Music. Quickly spreading online, reaching the Top Five of Hype Machine’s Most Popular Chart, ‘All Night’ and the remaining 6 tracks on the EP, were co-produced but Tom Iansek, of Big Scary and #1 Dads fame.

This month, fans will be given a glimpse into Slum Sociable’s world with exclusive playlists created for followers on Rdio. Fans will also get a taste of the eclectic influences that have shaped the sound of TQ. Set to be part jazz, part hip-hop, part trip-hop, part acoustic electronica – the duo have developed an ambient yet brooding twist on new age jazz, with Ed and Miller playing pretty much everything on the record themselves. On becoming the last Rdio Airtist To Watch, the duo commented "we’re as excited AF to be selected” .

Launched in Australia this year, Rdio’s Artist To Watch program is an ongoing initiative that features a series of handpicked local and international artists, which Rdio supports in their development and success. Sitting aside previous Australian Artists To Watch like Hiatus Kaiyote and Last Dinosaurs, Slum Sociable is in good company.

Those who missed Slum Sociable’s stand out performance at BIGSOUND can rest assured the duo will be invited to many more stages over the summer, including the recently announced St Jerome’s Laneway Festival.
