Sia lands her first ever #1 single at Australian radio

Sia has achieved a career milestone, with her new release ‘Together’ becoming her first #1 single as a lead artist at Australian radio.

‘Together’ – out through Atlantic Records/Warner Music – will feature on the soundtrack for a musical drama film directed by Sia called Music.

She’s only the second Australian to reach the summit of the TMN Hot 100 powered by Radio Monitor this calendar year, with the other being 2019 breakout star Tones And I.

“It has been an incredible achievement to have Sia reach the #1 spot on Australian Airplay and especially after her years of hard work and generosity in Australian Music Industry,” Warner Music NSW radio and national TV manager Emily Whyte tells TMN.

“We at Warner Music Australia are particularly proud to represent a song which brings such a wonderful message of coming together in time like this.”

While ‘Together’ is Sia’s first ever #1, the singer-songwriter and producer has come close to the mark on several occasions over the last decade.

2014 release ‘Chandelier’ made it as high as #2, before she repeated the feat the next year with ‘Elastic Heart’ in 2015.

‘The Greatest’ featuring Kendrick Lamar, released in 2016, also went tantalisingly close, but eventually peaked at #4.

We are proud that Sia represents Australian music throughout the world with her many collaborations and hits and more so than ever we celebrate her #1 success her in her home country,” says White.

“We’d love to thank the Australian radio network for all their continued support in Sia’s career.”

Sia did reach the #1 spot on one previous occasion, but as a feature artist on 2012’s ‘Wild Ones’ by Flo Rida.

Her first significant impact on the airplay charts when she featured on David Guetta’s 2011 release, another track to make it to #2 on the Hot 100.

More recently her team-up with Zayn, ‘Dusk Til Dawn’, made it to #4.

The only other Aussie currently in the Top 10 of the Hot 100 is Amy Shark, with her single ‘Everybody Rise’ sitting at #10 after twelve weeks.

The rest of the Top 5 remains the same, with Topic, Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande, Jawsh 685 & Jason Derulo, and Kygo x Tina Turner making up the remaining positions.

Meanwhile on the Country Hot 50, Taylor Swift’s ‘cardigan’ becomes her first #1 in over a decade.

Her last time at the summit of the chart came with 2008’s ‘Love Story’, before she pivoted towards the pop sound she has become known for, and went on to have several #1 singles on the TMN Hot 100.
