Sia exits Sony deal, announces Christmas album
In February last year, Sia’s management team Crush Music launched a new label joint venture with Warner Music Group, Future Crush Music. Now, Sia has made the switch from her global home (excluding Australia) Sony Music to license her music through WMG’s Atlantic Records.
Announced today, the Adelaide-born artist’s new global deal will see her future music released through her own label Monkey Puzzle and Atlantic through a new partnership. The deal again excludes Australia, where Sia’s records are distributed via Inertia.
The first release is a Christmas album co-created with fellow songwriter Greg Kurstin (1000 Forms of Fear, This Is Acting)
“Sia is a once-in-a-generation artist. Her extraordinary gifts as a singer and songwriter, her revolutionary approach to the art of performing, her groundbreaking videos – everything she does comes from a deep wellspring of inspiration and imagination,” stated Atlantic Records Chairman/CEO Craig Kallman and Atlantic Records Chairman/COO Julie Greenwald.
“Sia is that rare artist who has formed her own singular, boundless musical universe. We are so happy to welcome her into the Atlantic family and to be joining Sia on her amazing musical journey.”
In addition to the Christmas album, Sia is currently in the process of directing her first feature film. However there are no further official details on either project.
Sia is headed to Australia soon for the local leg of her Nostalgic For The Present Tour. Supported by Charli XCX, MØ and Amy Shark and presented by Chugg Entertainment, Sia will perform two stadium shows in Melbourne (Nov 30) and Sydney (Dec 2).
