Shortlist announced for 2020 APRA Song of the Year
25 artists have been named on the shortlist for the 2020 peer-voted APRA Song of the Year award.
The largest peer-voted music award in Australia has been narrowed down, with APRA members to vote for their favourite. The winner will be announced at the 2020 APRA Music Awards, April 28 in Sydney.
The 38th edition of the awards sees plenty of new faces receiving nominations for the first time, including Toni Watson (aka Tones And I) for her breakout hit and ARIA chart record-breaking ‘Dance Monkey’.
Joining her for their debuts on the list are; Grace Shaw (Mallrat), Jessica Mauboy, Paul Dempsey, Sampa Tembo (Sampa the Great), Thelma Plum, Mark Lizotte (Diesel), Alasdair Murray (Illy), Alejandro Abapo, Leroy Clampitt, Vincent Goodyer, Luke Hemmings and Ashton Irwin from 5 Seconds of Summer, plus members of Underground Lovers and Tropical Fuck Storm.
Joining the newcomers are several artists making back-to-back appearances on the shortlist, Paul Kelly, The Teskey Brothers, Angie McMahon, Ainslie Wills, Sarah Aarons, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard and Kaiit.
The shortlisted playlists can be streamed on Spotify and Apple Music.
The nominees will be furthered narrowed to a final five ahead of the APRA Music Awards, with several other award categories to be revealed in March.
All voting APRA members have gone into the draw to win a massive prize pack worth over $3,000 which includes a Shure microphone and headphone package, a Showgroup Travel voucher, concert tickets compliments of Frontier Touring/Chugg Entertainment and two tickets to the 2020 APRA Music Awards.
