She Is The Music to launch global database for women in music

Non-profit organisation She Is The Music is launching a global database for women working in music in 2019.

The SITM Database will list and profile female songwriters, engineers, producers, studio positions and live/touring professionals.

Other categories will be added through time.

She Is The Music was set up earlier this year as a response to a damning report conducted by the USC Annenberg Inclusion in the US.

In a survey of 600 songs, it found female artists made up 16.8%, songwriters 12.3% and producers were 2%.

Among the founders of SITM are Alicia Keys and Universal Music Publishing Group chairman and CEO Jody Gerson.

It has listed in its Creator Committee Bjork, Mary J. Blige, Billie Eilish, Missy Elliott, Ariana Grande, Skylar Grey, HAIM and Halsey.

It began mentoring, workshops and ways to increase the profile of women working in the music industry.
