Shazam updates service for Spotify and Rdio users

Last year, Shazam partnered with both Rdio and Spotify to allow users to playback full songs after they Shazam them. Now, the music discovery app has updated the way users of either service interact with it.

Announced today and in response to user feedback, Shazam is offering users of Rdio or Spotify’s free tiers the ability to add Shazamed tracks to any of their streaming service playlists.

Available today for iOS and Android users, the update also offers Shazam users a 48-hour free trial of Rdio’s paid subscription tier, Rdio Unlimited, where they can stream full tracks within the Shazam app.

Daniel Danker, Chief Product Officer, Shazam said: “By working with our streaming partners, Shazam is making it simple for fans to do what they love most when they discover a new song or artist – sit back and listen.

“It’s also never been easier to add tracks you discover to a playlist — just connect to Rdio or Spotify, and anytime you Shazam, we'll make sure those tracks are waiting for you on a playlist the next time you look.”

Shazam has been drip-feeding users additional social features since it announced its partnership with Rdio last July. Most recently, in June Shazam partnered with over 30 artists to give Shazam users access to their behaviour on the app. Sos told TMN at the time that while no Australian acts were involved in the launch, Shazam’s partnerships with all major labels has welcomed “hundreds of additional artists, big and small, from around the world to share their favourite tracks with fans.”
