Emerging Aussie acts tapped for Shazam’s 2021 predictions playlist
Australian acts Masked Wolf and Cat & Calmell have been included in this year’s Shazam predictions playlist, which highlights emerging artists who are expected to shine in the coming year.
The 50-track playlist is determined from a combination of Shazam’s predictive data and algorithms, as well as personal curation from Apple Music’s global editorial team. Each track shows early indicators of future growth and consistent momentum on Shazam’s discovery tool.
Masked Wolf, a Sydney hip-hop artist, saw his 2019 track ‘Astronaut in the Ocean’ land in Apple Music’s top 20 in five territories. His more recent song ‘Switch’ is featured in Shazam’s predictions playlist.
Cat & Calmell are a pop duo, also based in Sydney. Cat & Calmell have already announced a global management deal with tmwrk and worldwide label agreement with EMI Australia. Their debut release, ‘dumbshit’, is featured on the Shazam playlist.
Other acts from around the world showcased in the playlist include Kansas City trip Blackstarkids, Nigerian-American singer Serena Isloma, LA indie pop artist Tai Verdes and Toronto rapper LB Spiffy. All up, artists from 20 countries and 16 genres are featured in the playlist.
