SFX turns Beatport Pro into a streaming service

SFX Entertainment has announced the 2015 launch of a new version of Beatport Pro, the main change being that it is now a fully-fledged streaming service.

Beatport, originally a platform for electronic music artists to have their music purchased, plans a move into the highly competitive music streaming market with the launch of the updated platform next year. As reported by Music Times,Beatport Pro is set to be an ad-supported streaming service, similar to Spotifyand Rdio’s current free model. It will give users the ability to stream the entire Beatport catalogue for free whilststill having the option to purchase the mixes on the site.

The fact that Beatport's focus is on electronic music has made the push for streaming a lot easier in regards to licensing for the tracks. Countless electronic acts have signed to boutique labels who specialise and focus on the genre, which no doubt has helped streamline the process of acquiring the rights to stream many of the works on Beatport. The biggest obstacle SFX are expected to face is acquiring the rights to many of the world's bigger EDM acts that have almost exclusive deals with major labels, as well as adhering to thedifferent copyright laws in many of the world's regions.
