SCA to replace The Bump with Shazam countdown

Former Editor

Southern Cross Austereo has announced a new nightly countdown show in partnership with Shazam, which will replace its official countdown show The Bump.

The Shazam Top 20 will be hosted by The Bump’s Angus O’Loughlin and his ex-Take 40 co-host and The Loop TV show presenter Ash London and count down Australia’s most Shazamed songs based on a daily chart of songs Shazamed from consumer’s mobile device the day prior.

It will feature interviews among its on-air content and will eventually be marketed as a sponsorable opportunity to its clients.

Southern Cross Austereo Head of Content Craig Bruce said in a statement, “We’re thrilled to partner with Shazam to
launch this ground-breaking interactive show.  Shazam is a global leader in music discovery with a huge
and engaged Australian audience.  We continue to push the boundaries of combining radio and digital
content to create new experiences for our fans, and Angus and Ash are the best talent to bring this concept to life in Australia.”

The audio recognition app is used by eight million and the partnership with SCA marks the first time a radio show has been powered by mobile.

Shazam’s APAC Sales Director Steve Sos said, “The fact that this is a world-first is testament to the commitment to innovation that both organisations have as part of their core DNA. It is also a natural and compelling extension to the utility we already provide to our millions of users by allowing their Shazam activity to shape the editorial framework for the nightly show.”

The Shazam Top 20 will be broadcast nationally across the Today Network (2Day FM Sydney, Fox FM Melbourne, B105 Brisbane, 92.9 FM Perth, SAFM Adelaide, NXFM Newcastle, Sea FM Gold Coast and selected markets on SCA’s regional network) from 7pm weeknights starting this Monday October 20.
