SCA invest in startup; Hadley settles bullying case; Grohl rocks Stern’s 60th
SCA invest in startup to personalise radio
Southern Cross Austereo have announced their first ever early stage investment in a startup. The startup is called 121 cast and they have developed ’Omny’ (launched late last year in the market).
Omny’s aim is to provide a radio type product, and will be supplying access to content (now from SCA), music (via Spotify, Songl, Rdio or your own iTunes library), weather and news – essentially making your own radio station. It can also tell you whose birthday it is via Facebook, and read emails to you. Think of it as Pandora with radio content.
Stern’s 60th birthday bash – how’s this lineup !
On Friday night in the US, Howard Stern hosted his 60th birthday bash.
SiriusXM enabled anyone in the world to listen to the broadcast live when usually his live shows can only be heard by subscribers to satellite radio in the states. It was a birthday radio show like no other.
Guests included talk show hosts David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon, recorded messages from the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ellen. There were lots of interviews with comedians and movie stars plus the event included musical guests Adam Levine, Train, Jon Bon Jovi, John Mayer, The Black Keys, Steven Tyler from Aerosmith and Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters (whose acoustic version of Everlong was made famous after he played it on Stern’s show in 1998).
The show went for four-and-a-half hours (with a two hour pre-show) with the finale seeing Tyler, Slash, Grohl and Train join to perform Walk This Way.
Hadley settles with Palmer over alleged bullying
2GB’s Ray Hadley has settled for an undisclosed sum to resolve allegations he bullied the stations digital content manager, Richard Palmer.
“I can confirm that the matter is settled to my client’s satisfaction,” said John Laxon, lawyer for Palmer.

B105 ask Brissy stations to support campaign
B105’s breakfast team, Labby, Stav & Abby, spoke with boxer Danny Green about his ’coward’s punch’ TV campaign to address this current social issue.
The ad is being supported by many of the TV networks but Labby, Stav & Abby want to do the same on radio; they offered to make the radio ad at B105 and SCA Brissy will support the campaign. They are also asking the other main players in Brisbane – 97.3FM, Nova 106.9, the ABC – to play the CSA for free.

’Listen to a KIIS interview on 2Day FM’ – oops
Last week, international pop star Enrique Iglesias appeared on the Kyle & Jackie O show, now of course on KIIS 1065.
He has a new song out, and a new album soon, so is on the promotional trail. His social media person got a bit confused and tweeted the wrong station to his 6.9 million followers before the interview (it has since been deleted)…
