Samsung launches Milk Music in Australia today

Samsung’s station-based internet radio service, Milk Music, has launched in Australia to take on Pandora and iTunes Radio.

Milk Music is free and doesn’t use the ad-supported freemium model oft used by market competitors like iTunes Radio.Exclusive to owners of Samsung’s Galaxy devices, Milk Music has built-in curation on around 200 stations that cover all the major all-encompassing genres as well as sub-genres and an 'Australian' inclusion.

Milk Music is powered by the people behind Slacker Radio, an interactive internet radio service available in the US and Canada.

Gizmodo reviewed the service and said Milk Music personalises users’ tastes through its favourite/ban song function and has three sliders for users to tailer stations to either play popular songs or deep cuts.

Milk Music launched in the US in March 2014 and last month announced its first foraybeyond mobile with an expansion asa Samsung Smart TV app in the US and the launch of Milk VR(Virtual Reality) forimmersive 360-degree videos, featuring channels in music, sports, action and lifestyle.

Milk Music added aPremium$3.99/month subscription tier in mid-2014 for its US users; it's unclear whether the same strategy will be rolled out locally.
