Ryan Downey signs with Dot Dash Recordings for forthcoming album
Melbourne singer-songwriter Ryan Downey has signed to Remote Control’s Dot Dash Recordings.
To coincide with the signing announcement, Downey has announced the forthcoming release of his second album, A Ton Of Colours, sharing the lead single ‘Heart Is An Onion’. The full album will arrive on May 14 through Dot Dash. Downey has also announced shows for Melbourne, Castlemaine and Sydney in April.
Downey said of the signing: “I’m very excited to be joining the Dot Dash fam, their gene pool is outstanding. Not only are they the easiest, most supportive people to work with, they’re so incredibly hard working and they believe in the art.”
And of the single, he added: “It’s about empathy and looking into each other’s human layers, seeing that we all have the same clunky, miraculous hearts underneath and finding resilience and magic in that connection.”
A Ton Of Colours follows on from Downey’s debut record, Running, which was nominated for the Australian Music Prize and accompanied by a string of national headline shows. The new album was written and performed by the singer, with additional instrumentation from Jesse Glass and Nicolas Roder.
In signing with Dot Dash, Downey joins a roster currently comprising Methyl Ethel, Gena Rose Bruce, Sui Zhen, Carla Geneve and recent signee Ngaiire, among others.
