Ruel sells out debut solo shows
15-year-old Sydney multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter Ruel has sold out his debut shows at The Metro Theatre in Sydney and the Northcote Social Club in Melbourne.
This was achieved completely by word of mouth and social media, according to his record company Sony Music Entertainment Australia.
The London-born prodigy also dropped a new single ‘Younger’ from his debut EP Ready which is out this Friday (June 16) via his own label Muziek Trust.
‘Younger’ had its world premiere on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show, where Lowe hailed him as “one of our favourite new artists at Apple Music.”
The track also landed in the Top 10 of Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist in the US, receiving 22 NMF placements and three Top 10s.
Upon release, it received Best of the Week placements with Apple Music in over 10 countries.
The track featured Grammy Award-winning producers M-Phazes and S1 (Beyonce, Kanye West and Jay-Z), with background vocals by Sarah Aarons and LA gospel outfit Jason McGee & The Choir.
Ruel explains: “I wrote ‘Younger’ at my Airbnb in LA with my mate Sarah Aarons.
“We were talking about how friends part ways over time because of different interests or family life and I really liked that concept for a song.
“I definitely relate to this story personally and I feel like most people have gone through this kind of scenario too.”
The earlier ‘Dazed and Confused’ generated four million streams on Spotify.
The teenager was introduced to soul, blues and jazz by his music-loving father, and counts Stevie Wonder, Dave Brubeck and Amy Winehouse as major musical influences growing up.
After picking up and learning to play the guitar at eight years old, Ruel started to write songs of his own.
