The likes of Tash Sultana, Tame Impala, and Midnight Oil have all been named as big winners at the inaugural edition of the The Sailor Jerry Rolling Stone Australia Awards this evening.

Handed out at an exclusive invite-only event at The Argyle in Sydney, the evening saw NovaFMradio hosts Ben & Liam taking on performer duties, while Mia Rodriguez and Tash Sultana were on hand for a pair of typically immersive performances.

However, the evening’s biggest headline was undoubtedly the winners of each category, which included Best Record, Best Single, Best New Artist, the Rolling Stone Global Award, and the Rolling Stone Reader’s Award.

Tkay Maidza took home the award for Best Record, with Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 2 beating out the likes of acclaimed albums by E^ST, Hockey Dad, Tame Impala, The Kid LAROI, and Gordi to receive the honour. However, Tkay wasn’t quite as lucky in the Best Single category, with her track “Shook” being outshone by Tash Sultana’s “Pretty Lady”, which too triumphed over tracks by Chet Faker, Baker Boy, flowerkid, and Triple One.

Mia Rodriguez was on hand to receive the Best New Artist award, coming out ahead of other rising stars Jerome Farah, Stevan, Yours Truly, and Miiesha, while the Rolling Stone global team chose Tame Impala as the winner of the Global Award, with the likes of Keith Urban, Sia, Tash Sultana, Troye Sivan, and Tones And I all in the running for the honour.

Finally, the hotly-contended Rolling Stone Reader’s Award proved as one of the most surprising, with comparatively-nascent artists like Spacey Jane, The Chats, Lime Cordiale, and Ball Park Music being overlooked in favour of veteran outfit Midnight Oil.

Having just wrapped up a series of shows for their ‘Makarratta Live’ tour, the group were performing live in support of The Makarrata Project, their first new album in 18 years, and first chart-topping record in three decades. Check out the full rundown of nominees and winners below.
