Rodriguez lands three albums in ARIA Top 25
The full Rodriguez catalogue has returned to the ARIA Albums chart this week with both his studio records and the soundtrack to the Oscar-winning documentary about his career all included in the Top 25.
The 72-year-old’s debut album Cold Fact (1970) is at #11 – beating its previous chart peak of #23, his sophomore album Coming From Reality (1971) is at #25 and the Searching for Sugar Man soundtrack is at #22.
The chart resurgence follows the screening of Searching For Sugar Man on SBS1 on Sunday night and his Australian tour announcement for October/November this year.
Rodriguez last toured Australia in 2013, where he performed Bluesfest in Byron Bay and all the major cities with The Break, featuring members of Midnight Oil and the Violent Femmes.
Sixto Rodriguez has enjoyed national support since the early ‘70s when Sydney radio presenter Holger Brockman played his music on AM station 2JJ, triple j’s forerunner. He first toured Australia in 1979 and again in 1981, where his first onstage team-up with Midnight Oil occurred.
