REVEALED: $10,000 Forbes Street Studios Grant winner

Earlier this month Tone Deaf announced the 15 finalists of the Forbes Street Studio Grant – which offers one young artist a major leg-up to the value of $10,000.

While they were up against some seriously stiff talent with acts like Melbourne rapper Cooper, electronic pop duo Chymes and Arnhem Land’s Baker Boy all among the 15 finalists, the anthemic indie rock of PLTS was the standout for the panel of judges.

Out of the hundreds of great applications we received, the trio from Byron Bay shone through with their sincerity and heart-on-sleeve lyrics on winning track ‘On & On’.

Anthony Garvin, Forbes Street Studios’ Studios Manager, extended a huge congratulations to PLTS’ members Kit, Byron and Harry:

“We are so pumped to offer this prize to PLTS. We’re looking forward to them getting into the studio and can’t wait to hear the results!” Garvin said.

Poppy Reid, Managing Editor at Seventh Street Media, said:

“‘On & On’ feels like a taste of something truly monolithic. PLTS’s sound may be rooted in Aussie alt-rock, but the band’s power pop elements – and that tinge of grit that will no doubt frame their legacy – makes them a major contender for Australia’s next global export,” she said. “They’ll slide in easily across our five platforms and I speak on behalf of the whole team when I say we’re so excited to work with them!”

Through our partnership with Forbes Street Studios and Universal Music Australia, PLTS now has the opportunity to record a fully mixed and mastered single at the high-tech Forbes Street Studios, have it featured on one of the most popular local playlists on Spotify, as well as receive A&R, legal and accounting consultation with top names in the biz – as well as a $5,000 marketing campaign with Australia’s largest music media publisher, Seventh Street Media.

THE FORBES STREET STUDIOS GRANT INCLUDES:

  • 3 days recording at Forbes Street Studio with a top Australian studio engineer;
  • 1x track fully mixed and mastered;
  • 1x meeting with Universal Music A&R following the recording session;
  • $5,000 Seventh Street Media marketing campaign;
  • 1x track to be added into one of the Universal Music’s top playlists on Spotify;
  • 1x legal consultation with Media Arts Lawyers; and
  • 1x accounting consultation with One Accounting.
