APRA AMCOS has announced a series of songwriting workshops in regional Victoria this October.
Following on from a similar run of events in New South Wales in June, The Regional Sessions will take place in five hubs in Gippsland, Wangaratta, Bendigo, Dandenong and Geelong, with early bird tickets for all events on sale now.
The full-day events will be tailored for each local area and will feature songwriting workshops and performances. Mentors at the workshops will inckude Joel Ma (Joelistics), Emma Donovan, Benny Walker, Ella Hooper, N’fa Jones and Beatrice Lewis.
The workshops will also include a series of ‘In Conversation’ keynote speeches from a range of notable Australian songwriters, including Hoodoo Gurus frontman Dave Faulkner, Gordi and Adalita, who will also lead songwriting workshops at the Geelong event.
“I’m really looking forward to the Regional Sessions in my hometown of Geelong,” the Magic Dirt frontwoman said.
“It’s going to be a great opportunity for songwriters to connect and experience new ideas and share in the creative process.”
Victoria’s minister for creative industries Danny Pearson said that The Regional Sessions would help foster a new generation of musical talent from regional centres across the state.
“Adalita started out in Geelong, Ella Hooper first made music in Violet Town and today, Victoria’s established and emerging contemporary artists hail from right across the state,” Pearson said.
“The Victorian Government is proud to support The Regional Sessions as part of our $5 million regional and outer suburban live music initiative, bringing music back to our local stages, investing in local talent and ensuring our industry reactivates and recovers.”
