Red Bull Music Academy bringing Ta-Ku to Perth

Red Bull Music Academy bringing Ta-Ku to Perth

PRESS RELEASE:

A musical partnership of epic proportions, Red Bull Music Academy and Boiler Room are returning for another round of the unique Chronicles series in June, with iconic Perth beatmaker, Red Bull Music Academy Alumni (Barcelona 2008) and multidisciplinary creative Ta-ku taking the reigns for his own Boiler Room session, featuring hand-picked artists from both past and present who have inspired the constant evolution of his distinct sound. Chronicles 002 follows the hugely successful launch in November with Hiatus Kaiyote, Taylor McFerrin and friends, and is designed to shine a spotlight on some of our finest homegrown talent and their musical influences from across the globe.

The second instalment of the Chronicles series sees the triumphant return of Ta-Ku the musician and marks the release of his latest and most accomplished EP – ‘Songs To Make Up To’ (Future Classic) – a companion piece to 2013’s ‘Songs To Break Up To’. Showcasing the influences and creative streams that have led him to this moment in his already storied career, the Chronicles 002 broadcast will act as the world premiere live performance of ‘Songs To Make Up To’ in full.

Having risen to prominence as one of Australia’s most in-demand beatmakers, Ta-ku has since evolved into a curator of a rapidly expanding, multi-disciplinary creative empire. He co-runs and regularly contributes to multiple creative projects including Team Cozy, a sneaker-based Instagram account he started as a joke with friends which is now about to graduate to a full-blooded clothing line and Create+Explore a collaborative design community that celebrates travel and lifestyle culture with killer photography, music and video production, as well as co-owning Westons Barbershop in his hometown of Perth on the side. While the common thread is one of collaboration and self-expression, the key to managing these disparate passions is respect. “Having different creative outlets keeps me fresh in each one,” says Ta-ku.

Enhancing his sonic journey at the event will be Brisbane via NZ artist Jordan Rakei, who recently collaborated with Ta-Ku on ‘Sunrise / Beautiful’, from the forthcoming Songs To Make Up To EP, and has become renowned for his experimental blend of lo-fi soul. Kit Pop will also be joining the lineup under their collaborative moniker, HWLS, which has seen them unleash floor-filling remixes for the likes of Tokimonsta, Seekae and Hermitude. Netherlands-raised, Australia based WAFIA, who has featured on tracks with Japanese Wallpaper and toured with the likes of Sohn, Sylvan Esso, and Vancouver Sleep Clinic, rounds out the tasteful lineup with a full live performance of notable tracks old and new. These aural treats will be perfectly complemented by a visual installation from award-winning Audio Visual Artist, Sam Price (NAIK).

The partnership with Boiler Room Australia is a natural one for Red Bull Music Academy, which has taken its series of music festivals and workshops to cities around the world over the last 16 years, with previous stops including Tokyo, New York, Toronto, London, Madrid, Melbourne, and Cape Town, heading to Paris in October and November this year. Further, the Academy has extended its curatorial touch to the online radio station, Red Bull Music Academy Radio, and to festival stages and signature events on every continent including our own.

Evolving from the UK's rich pirate radio heritage, Boiler Room has grown from a webcam taped on a warehouse wall to become the definitive showcase of new musicworldwide. In just four years, Boiler Room has weaved itself into the fabric of dance music culture, boasting an envious back catalogue of era-defining sets from the likes of Jamie XX, Thom Yorke, Nicolas Jaar, Skream & Disclosure (b2b) and ?uestlove, along with Australia’s own Chet Faker, Oscar Key Sung, Hiatus Kaiyote, Hermitude and Steve Spacek.

This chronicle of Ta-Ku’s musical evolution will be held in a secret location and, following the age-old Boiler Room formula, will be a private RSVP guestlist only affair –RSVP HERE. Alimited numbers of tickets will be given away viawww.facebook.com/RedBullMusic closer to the event.Thosenot able to squeeze into the event can of course check out the live-stream onwww.boilerroom.tv/chronicles.
