Radio Wrap: Nine-Fairfax Merger, new triple j ‘Inspired’ podcast
Nine Entertainment merge with Macquarie Radio Network owners Fairfax Media
Nine Entertainment and Fairfax Media have announced a merger agreement in a deal worth an estimated $4 billion.
Under the new merger, Macquarie Media’s radio network, including stations 2GB, 3AW and 6PR, as well as the newly rebranded Macquarie Sports Radio, will join a portfolio comprising Nine’s television network as well as a suite of large-scale brands in digital and publishing.
The deal sees Nine acquire all of Fairfax’s shares, taking a controlling 51.1% share in the new business.
Nine’s Hugh Marks will act as chief executive, while former Federal Treasurer Peter Costello will become as the company’s chair.
triple j get inspired with new Linda Marigliano-hosted podcast
Youth broadcaster triple j are stepping even further into the podcast world with a brand new pod called INSPIRED, hosted by Mornings presenter Linda Marigliano.
The podcast will be a repackaging of the chats Linda has every Tuesday morning with well-known artists about songs they have written.
It’ll all officially kick off this week with Cub Sport vocalist Tim Nelson sharing the story behind Come On Mess Me Up.

Hit105‘s Breakfast team were discussing triple j‘s broadcast of Splendour In The Grass this weekend just gone, and Matt couldn’t help but notice how the hosts over at the public broadcaster do things a bit differently.
Matty then began to imitate triple j’s relaxed announcer aesthetic, introducing a “tune man” by a band “3.7 kilometres outside of Byron Bay” called The Egg & Spoons.
The Hit105 hosts then launched into a discussion about how Ed Sheeran sold-out because “success isn’t cool, man”.

Jane Kennedy slams Ten’s male-only pilot week
Triple M Drive host Jane Kennedy has fired shots at Network Ten’s first ever Pilot Week, which will see the network air eight one-off shows featuring several Australian comedians, tv and radio personalities.
Kennedy’s gripe is with the fact that show hosts are 100% male, taking to social media with her thoughts
“Oh Look!! How very exciting for all these men!!!” Kennedy tweeted.
“And look! … There’s a lady in this picture with the remote control so she can watch all the clever funny men who have the opportunity to pilot their own shows.”
Pilot Week will be hosted by Angela Bishop and 2DayFM’s Grant Denyer from August 19, with the shows to be put to an audience vote following each airing.
Katy Perry’s Nova Takeover
The Nova Network saw a total Katy Perry takeover on Wednesday evening from 7pm for a full hour.
In an Australian radio exclusive, pop icon Perry chatted with Kent ‘Smallzy’ Small backstage at Perth Arena.
Perth was the first stop of Perry’s critically revered ‘Witness’ global tour, which has been making its way around the world since 2017.
