Radio legend Fred Botica returns to 96FM

Former Editor

Radio legend Fred Botica has announced his return to Perth’s 96FM, where he held the #1 Perth Breakfast show in the 1980’s.

With a career in broadcasting that spans 45 years, Botica has held posts at Radio Hauraki and Auckland’s first commercial FM station 89FM in New Zealand, Melbourne’s 3KZ and Perth’s 96FM (when it was the only FM station in the metro at the time) and most recently Perth’s Mix 94.5.

After 21 years at Mix 94.5, Botica left the Breakfast program in May; many believed it would precede the announcement of his retirement.

Now, Botica will resurrect his post as announcer at 96FM as what the station’s Content Director Brad McNally is calling its “fill in guy”.

“I have worked with Freddie at the original 96FM,” said McNally in a statement. “He is a really passionate music guy and will totally fit with the 96FM brand and persona.

“Fred will be our ‘fill in guy’ and we will see what happens after that.”

Botica will broadcast his first show on Sunday September 14 from 9am – 12pm.
