QOTSA have taken the #1 spot on the ARIA charts this week

Just a few days ago, we wrote about how Queens Of The Stone Age were looking pretty good to top the ARIA charts this week. Now that the charts are out, the stoner-rock legends have indeed taken out the number one spot, proving that Aussies still love their rock music.

Last week on the ARIA charts, we saw Gang Of Youths hit the number one position, just a week after Paul Kelly finally topped the charts with his 23rd record. While the streak of Aussie success couldn’t keep up sadly, we have however seen another week in which the current Aussie chart-king, Ed Sheeran, has been denied the top with his phenomenally popular record ÷ (Divide).

Queens Of The Stone Age’s long-awaited seventh studio record, Villains, managed to top the charts as expected, one position higher than Paul Kelly’s Life Is Fine, which is still managing to stay in the top two for the third week in a row.

While Ed Sheeran still maintains a presence at the number three position, we saw a re-entry from The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 soundtrack this week, which hit number four. Meanwhile, its Volume 1 counterpart managed to hit the number eight position.

Aussie talent still managed to keep a good representation in the top ten this week though, with Kim Churchill’s Weight_Falls managing to hit number six, while last week’s number one, Gang Of Youths’ Go Farther In Lightness, followed closely behind at number seven.

While we’ve been unlucky to keep up our two-week streak of Aussie acts on top of the charts, Queens Of The Stone Age’s presence at number one proves that pop-music isn’t completely ruling the charts, with rock music making a well-received resurgence.
