Qantas increases baggage allowance for artists
Just one week after the Australian Music Industry Network (AMIN) struck a deal with the Travel Beyond Group, to offer massive discounts on flights, car hire and accommodation for members of AMIN’s state music associations, Qantas have joined the chorus.
The airline today announced changes to its Carriage of Musical Instrument Policy including a free baggage allowance of three pieces (at 23kgs per piece) for artists – meaning artists could potentially fly with 69kgsof excess baggage.
Speaking to TMN, Music Victoria CEO/Chair of AMIN Patrick Donovan said: “We’re thrilled. It’s been greatas Chair of AMIN to see usunite nationally and have a stronger bargaining position.”
This increased baggage allowance, which will be set into motion on April 13, is available on Qantas and QantasLink domestic services and is not applicable to flights operated by partner airlines.

Eligibility
To be eligible for this special offer, the musician must be travelling with a musical instrument or touring equipment and be a current member of one of the following eligible musical associations;
