Prince to take over ARIA Charts next week
With the news of music icon Prince passing away last week, the ARIA charts are set to be inundated with his releases, so much so that it they dwarf any other happenings in the chart.
Fans and contemporaries across the globe have been paying tribute to the legend since his passing on April 21. He passed away alone in an elevator at Paisley Park, Prince’s sporadically used residence, concert hall, soundstage, nightclub and recording studio in Minnesota. The cause of death is still undetermined and results of the autopsy are not likely to be released for a few weeks. As memorials continue all over the globe, fans are remembering the 57-year-old by consuming his vast catalogue with zeal.
On the ARIA Albums chart, Prince’sUltimatewill debut within the Top 5, whilePurple RainandThe Hits / The B-Sideswill move back into the Top 3. His albumsThe Very Best Of, HITNRUN Phase One, The Hits 1, Diamonds And PearlsandSign “O” The Times are all looking to move into the Top 20. MeanwhileArt Official Ageand1999will make the Top 40 and 50 respectively.
It’s all Prince on the Singles chart as well withPurple RainandWhen Doves Crymoving into the Top 3, new peaks for both. His highest charting singles wereBatdanceandCream,which both peaked at #2, the latter of which under the moniker of Prince & The New Power Generation.
TracksLittle Red Corvette, Kiss, 1999andCreamwill hit the Top 20 whileLet’s Go CrazyandDiamonds And Pealswill move back into the Top 40.
Elsewhere, the ARIA Albums chart should see some impressive debuts from Dami Im’sClassic Carpenterswhich will debut in the Top 3, followed by Paul Kelly’sSeven Sonnets And A Song,due for a Top 10 debut.
A$AP Ferg’sAlways Strive And Prosperwill enter in the Top 20 followed by up-and-coming Melbourne hopefulsCamp Copewith their self-titled debut set to hit the Top 40.
The ARIA Singles chart will see Flume’s new hitSay Itft. Tove Lo debut in the Top 10 while Galantis’No Moneywill debut in the Top 30.
