Poison City Records sign Body Type ahead of debut album release

Andrew Hayden’s Poison City Records will release Body Type’s debut album through a new deal, announced  today (Feb. 10).

The Melbourne-based independent record label, distribution and skateboard/ record store adds the punk-rock fourpiece to its growing roster, with a debut LP Everything Is Dangerous But Nothing’s Surprising due out May 20.

But first, Poison City releases ‘Sex & Rage,’ the indie-rock outfit’s first new music in three years.

“We fell in love with Body Type after coming across their early EPs a while back – the tracks ’Stingray’ and ‘Palms’ felt especially infectious and exciting,” says Hayden of the new signing, “so obviously we’re delighted to be working with Body Type on their debut album this year.”

Body Type formed in 2016, and built a buzz with their early cuts EP1 and EP2, and the song ‘Palms,’ which has more than 500,000 hits on Spotify.

In the intervening years, they shared the stage with Fontaines D.C., Big Thief, Cate Le Bon, POND and others, showcased at SXSW and The Great Escape, enjoyed a recorded session at the BBC’s Maida Vale, London studios and embarked on headline tours in the U.S. and U.K.

Band members Sophie McComish, Annabel Blackman, Cecil Coleman, and Georgia Wilkinson-Derums regrouped in early 2020, to record their debut album.

Body Type worked fast. Those sessions wrapped up in just eight days, shortly before the pandemic would wreck everyone’s touring schedule.

“Body Type’s attitude and approach to the wide world of independent music is a great fit for Poison City,” adds Hayden, “and musically we hear a magical blend of soulful indie-rock and fierce angular-pop that feels urgent and relevant to these modern times.”

A national tour kicks off 4th March at Melbourne’s The Retreat.
