PICS: APRA AMCOS celebrates 90th year at Screen Music Awards
The 2016 Screen Music Awardsfelt especially significant last night. Performing rights organisation APRA AMCOS is currently celebrating its 90th anniversary and as the joint presenter of the Screen Music Awards, along withthe Australian Guild of Screen Composers (AGSC), it was honoured throughout the night in acceptance speeches and during the opening address by Brett Cottle AO, Chief Executive at APRA AMCOS.
“Few sectors have experienced change of such magnitude as the music industry. Over 90 years, people have gone from buying sheet music to radios, from vinyl records to CDs and now they purchase downloads and stream music on their smart phones,” said Cottle. “To keep pace with that change, we’ve always stayed true to our course: as the music creators’ key advocate, working to protect their music rights and promote the social and cultural value of music.
“While the landscape has changed over the years, the role of APRA AMCOS hasn’t. We’ve always been there to support our members and to advocate for their rights, and we will continue to do so for many years to come,” he said.
