Peter Allen telemovie receives Logie nominations

Seven Network’s two-part telemoviePeter Allen: Not The Boy Next Door has taken out two nominations and two early wins for the 58th TV Week Logie Awards.

The Australian television industry awards has already celebrated the 2015 screening, which was inspired by the global success ofThe Boy From Ozmusical. Not The Boy Next Door has wontwo awards for Most Outstanding Newcomer Actor (Joel Jackson) and The Graham Kennedy Breakthrough Star Of Tomorrow (Ky Baldwin).

NIDA graduate Joel Jackson is also up for Best New Talent for his work in the lead role and with drama miniseriesDeadline Gallipoli. Jackson is up against Adam Dovile (Better Homes And Gardens, Channel Seven), Benson Jack Anthony (800 Words, Channel Seven), Dan Reilly (The Block, Nine Network) and Pia Miller (Home And Away, Channel Seven).

Not The Boy Next Door has also been nominated for Most Outstanding Miniseries or Telemovie. It’s up against Deadline Gallipoli(Foxtel — showcase), House Of Hancock(Nine Network), The Beautiful Lie(ABC) and The Secret River(ABC).

The first part ofPeter Allen’sNot The Boy Next Door(September 13, 2015) had 1.333 metro viewers tuning in, with a total of 1.560 million. The second, a week later, dropped to 1.212 million metros, with a combined total of 1.450 million.

The telemovie preceded the Seven Network’s screening of Molly last month. Molly of course, was screened outside the cut-off date for voting on January 17, but with total top ratings of 2.636 million, it’s a frontrunner for the 2017 awards.

Last year’s Logies saw INXS’ TV mini-seriesINXS: Never Tear Us Apartreceive five nominations and take home one award; Luke Arnold who played Michael Hutchence was awarded the Most Outstanding Actor Logie.

With such figures and accolades for Network Seven, it’s little wonder that the TV networks are competing to produce a teleseries on Olivia Newton-John and Gudinski. Another possible production is the infamous 1970s rivalry between Skyhooks and Sherbet.

The Logie Awards winners will be announcedon May 8 at Crown’s Palladium Room in Melbourne.
