Perfect Pitch Publishing (PPP) strikes a licensing agreement to represent Leah Flanagan, the celebrated singer-songwriter and arts administrator.

Raised in Darwin with proud Indigenous Australian and Irish roots, Flanagan has collaborated with the likes of the late, great Archie Roach, Yothu Yindi, and Shane Howard and joined Midnight Oil for their final world tour, which coincided with her contributions to the rock legends’ ARIA No. 1 albums The Makarrata Project and Resist.

Flanagan has also contributed to numerous – and significant – cultural projects that amplify the voices and stories of Aboriginal musicians, including The Black Arm Band, The Mission Songs Project, and Buried Country 1.5: The Story of Aboriginal Country Music.

“Leah’s songs have always had a powerful connection in both words and melody, and it is a privilege to once again represent her extensive catalogue of compositions,” comments Clive Hodson, founder and managing director of PPP.

She’s an “incredibly gifted” writer and performer, he enthuses.

PPP is a sort of homecoming for Flanagan, who was previously signed by Hodson to Shock Music Publishing in 2008 after he spotted her at a Music NT conference in her hometown.

Earlier in her career, Flanagan studied classical music at the Elder Conservatorium of Music in Adelaide, and, with the encouragement and support from the staff at the Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music (CASM), began to write and perform her first songs at venues and festivals.

Since 2019, Leah has served as director of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Music Office (NATSIMO), the peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music creators, at APRA AMCOS.

“I like leaders who are inclusive and help me learn about being a better person. That’s what I see in a leader,” she told The Music Network in 2022. “You learn that going into a meeting with the intention of breaking the cycle is important. Not everyone has the answers. But everyone deserves the chance to learn and self-educate.”

At PPP, she joins the independent music publisher’s growing roster of west coast writers and artists which include Gina Williams & Guy Ghouse, Olivia De Melo, Joan & the Giants, Sophian, Boox Kid, No Charisma, Brendon Darby, Grace Barbe, Vdelli, Xtortya, Rupert John, Duende Indalo, and The Voice 2024 champion Reuben De Melo.
