On The Dial: new smoothfm compilation; Hughesy returns to Nova; Facebook wars

smoothfm to release another compilation album 

smoothfm and Sony Music have joined again to release another compilation album featuring artists that play on smooth.

Earlier this year, the smoothfm All Time Top 50 came out and spent four weeks at #1 on the ARIA compilation chart. The new album is themed for Mother’s Day and is titled Music For Mum. It will come out on April 18 and includes 3 CDs with 50 tracks.

Curtin FM breakfast host goes on a massive rant

Peter Newman went on his breakfast show last week at Curtin FM in Perth and had a massive go at management after he received a letter from the Station Manager regarding an interview he conducted.

In the letter it outlined that listener complaints were received after Newman interviewed a former station newsreader. In the chat he asked if her “boyfriend was good in bed.”

“This is clear intention by the Station Manager Quinn Glasson to dismiss my services,” said Newman.

 Facebook fan debate back on

With Fifi Box moving from drive to Fox Breakfast, and Jules Lund moving from drive to 2Day Breakfast, SCA has decided, understandably, to transition the 369,000 fans on the ’Fifi and Jules’ page to the new 2Day Breakfast page; Jules, Merrick, Sophie and Mel B.

Fifi Box decided to record a fun farewell message to those fans.

Which has subsequently inspired Kyle & Jackie at KIIS to record a message asking SCA to reconsider retaining ownership over the old Kyle & Jackie O 2Day Facebook page. Check ’em out below.

Hughesy returns to Nova

Dave ’Hughesy’ Hughes finished up at Nova 100 late last year after 12 years doing breakfast in Melbourne.

With this week being an out-of-survey week, Nova have grabbed Hughesy back to do a national breakfast show.

Hughesy will be joined by friends such as Tom Ballard, Tom Gleeson, Wil Anderson, and his ex-breakfast co-host Kate Langbroek.

The show will be heard in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.

Fairfax appoint new Melbourne Sales Director

Adam Richardson is returning to 3AW after a stint at Crocmedia.

Richardson was most recently Commercial Director of Crocmedia and before that spent 9 years in 3AW sales. He will now return as the Melbourne Sales Director for 3AW and Magic 1278.

3AW and Magic General Manager Shane Healy said: “Adam has already proven himself in radio sales in his previous career with 3AW and we are delighted to welcome him back to the fold. He is an outstanding sales practitioner who has an in-depth understanding of Talk radio and the Melbourne marketplace and brings a wealth of experience to our team. Boland moves to 4BC breakfast this week

With this week being a non-survey week, many radio people are taking the opportunity to grab a week off.

Ian Skippen from breakfast on 4BC will be doing exactly that, with former ABC Weekend presenter Warren Boland keeping his seat warm until after Easter.

Loretta Ryan will remain on breakfast with Warren.

SYN presenter Travis Butler has scored a breakfast gig at Star FM Limestone Coast (Mt Gambier).

Nic McClure is now Executive Producer of Rosso’s drive show on KIIS 1065 / Mix 101.1. Nic has worked with many radio shows, including Merrick & Rosso in the early days of Nova 969.

Nova Entertainment has promoted Simon Joyce to the new role of Group Sales Manager.

Andy Robertson is now a Sales Account Director at Nova Entertainment.

Snow FM in the Snowy Mountains has appointed The Edge’s Emily Goddard to co-host their breakfast show.

Matt Fulton is leaving 104.7/Mix Canberra and will be Triple M Brisbane’s new Image Producer, mainly working on breakfast. He starts April 14.
