On The Dial: Bradnam suspended by Nova; Branded content space gets busy; Greenwood leaves River 949; Shihad’s frontman joins radio
Bradnam suspended by Nova
Brisbane’s Nova 106.9 has moved swiftly to suspend Breakfast Host Ashley Bradnam after he was charged with drink driving on Saturday night.
Police have confirmed that Bradnam registered a blood alcohol reading of over 0.15% following a traffic incident in Runaway Bay.
Nova 106.9’s General Manager Jay Walkerden said: “he was shocked and disappointed by the news of Ashley’s charges. Ashley has sincerely apologised for his behaviour. He understands that his behaviour was wrong and potentially put others at risk.”
Branded content space gets busy
Competition in the branded content space is heating up, with Authentic Entertainment rejigging their business to defend against the newcomer Emotive Content.
Emotive was founded by former Authentic CEO Simon Joyce, with the backing of ARN, and last week celebrated its first 100 days of operation.
And for a company who spend a lot of time in the online space, how better to note the occasion than with a video. You can see '100 days in 100 seconds' below.
Meantime, Authentic Entertainment has been through massive changes in recent months, and that has continued this week with an overhaul of the company structure.
The company has set up a new specialist branded content and experiential division called Authentic Creative Labs, which will be led by the now former Authentic CEO John Wardley.
Greenwood leaves River 949
After 11+ years as GM of River 949 in Ipswich, David Greenwood has accepted the position as General Manager of Grant Broadcasters Kix Radio Network following the resignation of Rick Hose.
Greenwood says, “I am grateful to the Cameron Family for allowing me to tackle a new challenge within the radio industry.
Whilst I feel I am relinquishing a big chunk of my ‘life’, I shall be able to use my experiences and radio passion in building the KIX radio Network. Yeee Hah.”
Gavin Flanagan has been appointed as the new General Manager of River 949 Ipswich.
Shihad’s Toogood joins Hauraki
NZME's Hauraki has announced that Jon Toogood, lead singer of the iconic New Zealand rock band Shihad, will host a weekly one-hour show.
The first episode went to air Saturday night, and each Saturday following that.
Toogood's show will be branded 'Planet of Sound', and will showcase his music knowledge, and see him playing music that means something to him personally.
Toogood says: “Radio has always really interested me. Ever since I was a kid listening to music on the radio and hearing presenters talk about music, it’s always struck me as a really direct and personal way to reach a lot of people at once and share the language that is music.”
“Obviously, I’m known as a rock musician, but my appreciation for music goes beyond just that genre.”
Spectrum management under review
The Federal Government has outlined proposed changes to improve Australia’s spectrum management framework.
The report, prepared by the Department of Communications, outlines a series of recommended changes to improve Australia’s spectrum management framework.
The report recommends simplifying processes for new and existing spectrum users and increasing opportunities for market-based arrangements, including spectrum sharing and trading, and projects that national benefits could be $177 billion across a 15-year period.
