5SOS to hit Nova’s RedRoom

5 Seconds of Summer will headline the next Nova Red Room in Melbourne.

The exclusive Red Room event will launch NOVA Entertainment’s new partnership with Oporto, which will see the brands deliver a series over summer.

Kent Small Smallzy’s Surgery, Smallzy said, “In only a couple of years these guys have gone from YouTube stars to one of the hottest bands in the world, they are amazing performers and talented musicians. It’s exciting to have 5SOS return to Australia after their US tour and big win at the VMA’s to perform an exclusive gig for Nova’s Red Room, and it’s great to have Oporto on board.”

Since launching in 2012, Nova’s Red Room has produced over 90 events featuring international and local acts including Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Bruno Mars and Usher.

Olivia Newton-John back on smoothfm

Olivia Newton-John returned to smoothfm over the weekend.

ARN’s New Boss: Tony Kendall

Tony Kendall has been appointed as the new CEO for ARN. He will be responsible for driving the overall strategic direction, growth and operations of the radio business, as well as overseeing the expansion of the iHeartRadio platform in Australia.

Tony joins ARN from Bauer Media where he is currently director of sales. He joined Bauer in early 2013 from News Corp Australia where he spent over 23 years in senior commercial management roles across Melbourne, Sydney and New York including a year as the CEO of the Australian magazine division.

Line-up change at 3AW: Bolt & Price added

Steve Price is back at 3AW and Andrew Bolt joins him. Once the curtain comes down on the AFL season, 3AW will launch a new night time line-up.

Sports Today with Gerard Healy and Dwayne Russell will have their current 2-hour timeslot (6-8p) halved to 6pm-7pm weekdays. From 7pm to 8pm Ross Greenwood joins the 3AW lineup with Money News from Sydney.

And Steve Price returns to 3AW from 8pm-10pm Monday to Thursday, networked from 2GB. And Pricey won’t be alone. He will be joined each night by columnist Andrew Bolt for an hour of what 3AW are calling “hard-hitting radio” from 8pm.

Emma Freedman’s new network role

Fresh off the Dancing with the Stars floor, Emma Freedman is expanding her role with SCA to be the new National Drive News Presenter on The Hit Network.

Emma will cover news inside the Hamish and Andy show and still be part of The Scoopla Show with Jules Lund. The move has resulted in the axeing of the local drive newsreaders on the Hit network around the country.

Emma Freedman said, “The Hit Network has been an incredible home for me over the past nine months and to be extending my role on air is very exciting. Hamish and Andy have been great buddies of mine for a long time, and I’m so excited to be reading the news in their show.”
