NT Song of the Year returns, as MusicNT and Tourism NT expand their partnership

NT Song of the Year returns, as MusicNT and Tourism NT expand their partnership

Great news for Northern Territory musicians, as the partnership between MusicNT and Tourism NT for the ‘NT Song of the Year Award’ continues for the next two years.

The award was introduced for the first time in 2016, with Ben Evolent taking out the inaugural $10,000 prize, which he used to make a music video to showcase both his music and the beautiful Northern Territory.

MusicNT’s Executive Director Mark Smith welcomes the return of this partnership with Tourism NT.

“Following on the success from the inaugural year of the Award, Tourism NT has seen the value of engaging local music to promote the Northern Territory. MusicNT is excited about Tourism NT’s two-year commitment to showcasing the Territory through the vibrancy of its music industry,” he said.

Department of Tourism and Culture CEO Alastair Shields echoes this sentiment.

“Music is a highly powerful and emotive tool to engage audiences and we are pleased to partner with MusicNT and Territory musicians to promote our destination in campaigns and at key tourism events,” Mr Shields said.

Winners will be announced at the 2017 NT Song of the Year Awards Night, at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory Amphitheatre on July 8.

The deadline for entries is next Friday, May 26 at 5pm. Check out the excellent video made by last year’s winner, Ben Evolent, below.
