Nick Yates and Gerry Bull Launch Music-Services Company How Good

Music industry veterans Nick Yates and Gerry Bull press the button on How Good, a new, multi-service enterprise active across music, culture, brands and the arts.

Unveiled Thursday, Aug. 10, How Good pools the experience and networks of Yates, the long-time senior artist manager and head of artist management at UNIFIED Music Group, and Bull, who for over a decade was the Australian media’s point of contact with triple j, as publicist for the ABC’s youth network.

For its clients, How Good will offer artist development, strategic planning, project management, publicity, partnerships, sponsorship, venue bookings and events through targeted strategies and creative campaigns.

At launch, Yates handles venue bookings for the 500-capacity Crowbar on Gadigal Land / Sydney, venue of the 2023 Association of Artist Managers (AAM) Awards.

On his watch, Yates hopes to “grow the Crowbar brand and live music calendar, alongside his artist development work with several upcoming Australian artists,” reads a statement announcing the new venture.

Yates brings to the gig more than 15 years’ experience in music and entertainment, including 12-plus years with UNIFIED Music Group, where he managed such acts as Illy, Amy Shark, Violent Soho, Nina Las Vegas and The Kite String Tangle.

Most recently, he has led the music festival partnerships for Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME), the Australian charity tackling educational inequity through creatively connecting marginalised kids with mentorship programs, and has skilled-up with a stint on the board of AAM, and the judging panel for the American Express Music Backers Grant.

Bull’s resume includes a 13-year run at triple j publicist, during which time she ran campaigns for some of the biggest radio and television outlets and music festivals in the land, including triple j, Double J, triple j Unearthed, rage, ABC TV, Hottest 100, J Awards and Ausmusic Month, as well as the One Night Stand and Beat The Drum concerts and Falls and Harvest Rock festivals.

Also, Bull has curated over 1,000 triple j partnerships, including Splendour In The Grass, Laneway Festival, BIGSOUND, Spilt Milk, Groovin The Moo, Listen Out, Unify, THIS THAT and Yours & Owls, and run major events for the J Awards, Unearthed Showcases at BIGSOUND, Melbourne Music Week, Live At The Steps and ARIA Week, and more.

Current How Good projects include Mini Skirt, Behind The Gallery, Ashwarya, and Redfern Surf Club.

Yates and Bull, reads the statement, “look forward to bringing this experience, ethos and enthusiasm to their many upcoming projects,” with more said to be “announced soon.”
