EXCLUSIVE: Nick Findlay steps up as Music Director at triple j
Nick Findlay has this month taken one big step to becoming radioland’s leading curator.
The former Assistant Music Director at triple j is now Music Director, TIO can exclusively reveal.
After a decade with the national youth broadcaster, Findlay steps into Richard Kingsmill’s role as Kingsmill moves to work under the title Group Music Director.
Kingsmill, who has been a leading light at triple j for almost 30 years, now leads and coordinates the team of music directors across four ABC national networks – triple j, triple j Unearthed, Double J and ABC Local Radio.
It’s not the first time Findlay has filled Kingsmill’s shoes; he stepped in as Acting Music Director in 2012 when Kingsmill took long service leave – but Findlay had played a crucial role in shaping the sound and success of triple j long before that.
Gemma Pike, who has been in the triple j music team since 2011, is now triple j Assistant Music Director. She’s working as a music programmer, producer, and presenter.
Speaking to TIO, Chris Scaddan, ABC Head of Music, said:
“This recent change in job titles is a recognition of the way the teams have been working for the past two-three years, since the introduction of Double J and the added responsibility of the team to program music for ABC Local Radio.
“Richard’s experience and expertise stretches across a broader remit, with Nick taking on more direct responsibility for triple j’s day to day programming.”
triple j’s programming team also includes Dorothy (Dot) Markek (Double J Music Director), Dave Ruby Howe (triple j Unearthed Music Director), Jacinta Parsons (ABC Local Radio Music Director), and Karla Ranby (triple j Group Music Researcher/Producer).
