Nick Cave, Troye Sivan, Tame Impala up For Grammy Awards
The 2025 Grammy Awards promise to have a strong Australasian connection.
The shortlist for the 67th Grammys was published on the weekend, and features a wealth of songwriters and composers from these parts.
Among them: Nick Cave, whose most recent collection Wild God is nominated for a brace of Grammys, in the categories of best alternative music album, and best alternative music performance for “Song of the Lake”.
Also up for silverware is Troye Sivan and Styalz Fuego, who are in the hunt for best dance pop recording for “Got Me Started”, alongside co-writers Christopher John Stracey and Jack Glass; “Got Me Started” includes a sample of Bag Raiders’ EDM classic “Shooting Star”.
Tame Impala spearhead Kevin Parker is a chance for best dance/electronic recording for his contribution to Justice’s “Neverender”. That’s the fifth career Grammy nomination for Tame Impala.
Meanwhile, Jordan Dozzi contributed to Post Malone’s nominated best country album, with the track “Pour Me a Drink,” while fellow APRA AMCOS member Leroy Clampitt is in the running for best dance pop recording. The New Zealander co-wrote Madison “Make You Mine.”
All told, The Recording Academy will present 94 categories on the night of Sunday, February 2nd at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
The Australian music community is in good Grammys form. Earlier this year, six members of APRA AMCOS were honoured, including Kylie Minogue who won her second golden gramophone, for best pop dance recording (“Padam Padam,” written by Ina Wroldsen and produced by Lostboy), while Australian guitar legend Tommy Emmanuel won in the category for best arrangement, instrumental or a capella for his version of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues” along with The String Revolution.
In 2022, Rufus du Sol won best dance recording for “Alive” at the 2022 Grammys, as the awards relocated to Las Vegas for the first time in its history.
