Sony Music Entertainment Australia brings in Jason Aldean

Jason Aldean has become a huge country music superstar in the United States without being released outside that country.

Sony Music Entertainment Australia will release his US #1 Platinum-certified album Old Boots, New Dirt in February. Old Boots, New Dirt topped the US pop charts and went Platinum, with the lead single Burnin’ It Down becoming the fastest selling single in 2014 after going Platinum in nine weeks. The Australian version of the album includes his Night Train To Georgia Live DVD.

Sony Music Entertainment Australia will also release his five previous albums Jason Aldean, Relentless, Wide Open, My Kinda Party and Night Train in the local market on February 20.

Beats uses AC/DC’s Play Ball to aim at NFL players

AC/DC’s Play Ball is used in two new US ads by Beats By Dre headphones from Beats Electronics. They target National Football League (NFL) fans to “see how today's football stars use the Beats Studio Wireless to tune out the talk and focus on their performance to get the job done.”

Featuring players Richard Sherman and Von Miller, the ads debuted at the recent NFL playoff game between the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers. The track is off the current Rock Or Bust album which debuted at #3 in the US after selling 172,000 copies in its first week of release and has by this month sold a total of 400,000 units. The band has locked in some high profile appearances, including the Grammys and the headliner slot at Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival.

Jabuki at Create / Control

Melbourne hip hop grunge collective Jabuki struck a deal with Create / Control for the January 23 release of their Holiday EP. The act had a hectic 2014 with tours through Australia and North America, near-5 million streams on SoundCloud, 4 million YouTube views and two tracks topping the Hype Machine charts. After an Australian tour, the band returns to the US for dates including Summer Camp Festival and Wakarusa 2015.

APRA awards announces corporate partners

This year’s APRA awards attracted a number of sponsors. AON is APRA AMCOS’s chosen insurance partner, which will focus on how members of the music industry can protect their equipment, their public liability and themselves against personal injury.

NXTGIG, to launch early 2015, is the South Australian developed mobile app which allows acts and venues to post their latest gigs, and allows music fans to receive updates and share them with friends.

Gibson Brands was founded in Nashville in 1894 and is a global brand in musical instruments, consumer electronics, and professional audio.

The X-Studio is the Sydney-based multi-media and entertainment facility located under the famous Coca-Cola sign in Kings Cross.

Warner Music signs Rammstein side-project

Warner Music Australia will release in May an album by Lindemann, a Rammstein side-project. It was formed by Rammstein singer Till Lindemann and the Swedish metal identity Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy, Pain). The album is a Warner Music global priority, the company said.

Lost Highway expands Aussie roster with Ruby Boots

Lost Highway Records Australia, distributed through Universal Music, added Western Australian hailed Melbourne-based alt-country singer songwriter Ruby Boots (aka Bex Chilcott) to its roster. Her new single Middle Of Nowhere recounts how she journeyed to Utah to collaborate with Vikki Thorn of The Waifs who lives on a remote farm. Chilcott almost didn’t make it through US Customs and remembers waking up in darkness on Thorn’s driveway after succumbing to jetlag. Middle Of Nowhere was co-written with Thorn, who guests on vocals, and produced with Tony Buchen.

BOQ, Hutchinson Builders, present 2015 Queensland Music Awards

BOQ (Bank of Queensland) and Hutchinson Builders are presenting partners of the 2015 Queensland Music Awards. Australian and US judges are shortlisting the songs. Final judging begins this week, with finalists announced on Monday February 16 along with full details of this year's event and line-up.

WAU Management pulls in Kite String Tangle

WAU Management, a division of Unified, entered into a worldwide deal with The Kite String Tangle aka Danny Harley. He will be repped by Jaddan Comerford and Nick Yates. Last year the song Given The Chance went Gold and his Warner Music Australia EP Vessel had a Top 10 ARIA debut, leading to sell-out live shows. Remote Control reels in Dorsal Fins

Remote Control Records reeled in Melbourne 10-piece Dorsal Fins, releasing debut album Mind Renovation on February 13 through the band’s own Gripless imprint. Dorsal Fins was set up by songwriter and trumpeter Liam McGorry (Saskwatch / Eagle & The Worm) to experiment with new sounds.

The success of the genre-hopping music led to a record. The new single is the title track, with horns and vocals from Jarrad Brown and Ella Thompson, and will be launched at the Gasometer in Melbourne on Saturday January 31.

123 Agency expands with two Brisbane acts

Melbourne’s 123 Agency signed two Brisbane acts. Punk outfit Columbus this week dropped the Home Remedy EP while single Hospital premiered on triple j's Short Fast Loud last week. Columbus, who formed in 2012, are repped by Harry Moore who reveals, "I have always been a massive fan of the band and had been monitoring their success for close to a year now.”

On the eve of East Coast shows to set up the late 2015 issue of an EP, The Belligerents appointed 123 as national bookers.

Airbnb signs on for Sydney Mardi Gras

Airbnb, the global de facto standard for holiday rentals and short term apartment stays, says the LGBTQI community was early adoptive of its services. Hence it’s become a major sponsor of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. The strategic alliance is to encourage those visiting Sydney for the festival to book their stay through the site. As part of its involvement, Airbnb has changed its logo to the rainbow colours of the LGBTQI flag, similar to ANZ bank’s converting eight ATMs in Sydney to GAYTMs.

Last year’s Mardi Gras drew an estimated 300,000 generating $30 million to the NSW economy. Other major partners for the 2015 event include Qantas, ANZ, Durex, Finlandia Vodka, Google and Atlantis Events.

WAM, RAC, team up for Wheatbelt touring circuit

Perth based association WAM and RAC (Royal Automobile Club) team up, with support from Hertz, for this year’s Wheatbelt regional touring circuit. RAC is using its involvement to “raise awareness of road safety in the Wheatbelt,” explained the company’s Carina Lauder. “The Wheatbelt region continues to be overrepresented in WA’s fatality rate, and in 2013 was four times the State average. RAC believes action is needed to stop local deaths on local roads.”

Between February and November, WA and Wheatbelt acts will play pubs, clubs and leisure complexes each month on weekends. They include five-time WA Music Award winners Timothy Nelson & The Infidels, Telstra Road to Discovery winner Helen Shanahan and Boom! Bap! Pow!,
