New outdoor concert venue mooted for Gold Coast, aims to draw major acts
The Gold Coast is getting an open-air 1,500 capacity concert venue that will host everything from major rock and jazz acts to opera to community events as Carols By Christmas.
“An outdoor venue that can stage concerts of small and large scale would drive great cut-through and further enhance the Gold Coast as a music destination,” says Matt Bekier, chief executive of the Star Entertainment Group, which is behind the million-dollar open-air project on Broadbeach Island.
It will be across the road from the Star hotel at Broadbeach.
It is already earmarked to be the new home of the TV Week Logie Awards, which moved from Melbourne last year.
To ensure it will be an essential part of the scene, Star will hold discussions with stakeholders including the City of Gold Coast, Broadbeach Alliance and entertainment specialists.
Bekier adds, “The Star Gold Coast theatre is an established venue and has regular performances by leading musical acts.
“The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre is also a venue we believe could be further enhanced and promoted.
“But this outdoor venue could provide a real point of difference for the Coast.”
As a supporter of live music, Star has co-sponsored the Blues on Broadbeach festival and hosted the Country Music Awards.
